I managed to track down John Crow
He wrote and said:
Thanks for the nice comments about the band, it was great fun, until Rikki Farr
came along with stories of the big time if we worked for Georgio Gomelsky in the London
clubs. He ousted John Bedford as manager, and both Colin (Mojo) Bucket and Colin Woods
had to go as well. The Williams brothers and Julie Driscoll replaced them and although they were
good, things were not the same ( drug use became the norm for some of the band!).
I started playing in a Portsmouth band in 1957 “The Rocking Leopard Seven”, originally
a Skiffle group, but then I joined them, and we became a “John Barry Seven” cover band.
Mike (Devon) Beacon even played bass guitar for a while towards the end!
Along with “Barry Baron and the Live Five”, we worked five nights a week, at £3 night each,
working for Reg Calvert (check him out on Wikipedia). Reg ran shows along the south coast
from Bournemouth to Brighton and inland as far as Camberley, from 1957 to the early sixties, including the “Oddfellows” Hall every Wednesday night, with minor stars like Vince Eager and Vince Taylor.
J CROW COMBO: Mick Snowden (Vocals) replaced by Chris Ryder (Vocals) John Crow (Sax), Colin ‘Mojo’ Bucket (Guitar), Larry Nicholas (Keybopards) replaced by Rufus Stone (Keyboards), Graham Hunt (Drums). Mid 60s – briefly became the Crow.
